Lately, the entertainment biz has a lack of successors. Fiona Xie, Joanne Peh, Felicia chin, Apple Hong are showing potential to become future ''ah jies''. On the other hand for male artistes, the newcomers did not seem to have any breakthrough. Thus, the male lead roles are often played by the same people. Nevertheless, there are two potentials listed for future ah ges. One is Shaun Chen and the other is Qi Yuwu. Today, Yuwu will be the focus for this week.

Boy next door to macho hunk, popularity shooted up

In China's star search in 1999, Yuwu won it hands down and came to Singapore to join Star Search. That year, Jeff Chang was the Champion. However, MCS signed on Qi Yuwu. He delayed a year as he has to complete his course in university first.

At that time, his acting was quite raw. However, his looks has gained him notice from many fans. His roles were often minor ones and did not give much impression. His first breakthrough was ''Bukit Ho Swee''. However, the show did not receive much recognition from the audience and has poor ratings. Until ''Room in my heart'', it confirmed Yuwu's excellent acting skills and even boosted Fiona Xie's acting career. ''The Champion'' caused Yuwu's popularity to shoot up to a peak as he became from boy next door to a macho hunk. His luck changed and became one of the potential ah ges, with his looks and acting skills.

Besides work, he's quiet and doesn't like to express much
After finishing filming 3g show ''PS I luv u'', Yuwu said besides acting with Fiona Xie again, it's his first time acting with Taiwanese actress, Chen Yi Rong.

Alot of artistes feel that Yuwu has a double personality, especially offscreen and onscreen. Yuwu clarified that his personality was quiet in nature. However if his work needs him to display a different side of him, he will definitely do it well. He said that other than work, he did not spend much time hanging out with his colleagues.

Chen Yi Rong described him as a cup of warm water, which means it's hard to get hold of his true personality. Regarding that, Yuwu said that he's not a v complicated person and will not tend to think too much on the things he's doing. He explaned that he's not one who likes to express himself and thus, people find it hard to grab hold of what he's thinking.

''PS I luv U'' is mainly narrating the love story between Chen Yi Rong and Qiu Ze. Will Yuwu be afraid of being just a supporting role? About this., Yuwu said he never thought of it and he's quite open in fact. As long as the role is challenging and the experience is different, he will not hesitate to take it on.

Female stars that he admired - Fann Wong & Xia Ling Ling

Yuwu is busy filming ''Leap of Love'' and ''The Axis of Truth'' recently. Thus, he has quite alot of contact with Wong Li Lin, Rui En, Wang Yu Qing.

He admires female stars that put in lots of effort into their work. Examples will be Fann Wong and Xia Ling Ling and Yuwu said that he learnt alot of things from them.

It's almost been 6 years since he entered showbiz and the shows that he acted are too much to be counted. He admits ''I'am not someone who will be picky on my roles as all of them are challenges to me''.

Past and present - Confidence increases, acting skills improved
Yuwu feels that he has improved. ''Such things, You can feel it yourself. As compared to the past, I feel more confident about my acting now and feels that it's more natual.

After being ask how he will grade himself, Yuwu declined to answer the question. He said that he has no right to grade himself as it should be the audience who should do so.

Yuwu said that he has no favourite roles so far as he hopes his next role will be better than his present one. When asked which role he's not happy with, he said ''Last time, I feel that I'am not mature enough. An example is ''My Genie''.''

Lastly, he admits that he does not like to be called an Ah Ge. ''I've never thought of being an Ah Ge as I feel that. I only want to give the best shot in everything I do.''

Conclusion
Yuwu is definitely a v quiet artiste and he speaks really softly. He's not someone who likes to talk alot nor act cool. He has lots of passion in his work. For the past 15 mins, he has little variations in his facial expressions too.

Chen Yi Rong had the most scenes with Qi Yuwu, however, the guy who she set her eyes on was actually Sylvester Sim.

What was the reason? She laughed and said ''This time in SG, I only managed to get to know two guys - Qi Yuwu and Sylvester Sim. However, I prefer Sylvester. I was surprised when I heard it was his first time acting as his acting was superb. He can get into his role fast. Before filming, I heard Sylvester's album and felt that he was very talented. Looking through the lyrics book, I was amazed to know most of the songs were written by him.. really talented!''

Qiu Ze

Qiu Ze declinced to comment on any female artistes and said he only had comments for Qi Yuwu instead.

The reporters started to question him on which local female star left a gd impression of him. However, he said that he had no comments on any female star but only had gd impression on local actor, Qi Yuwu.

''The star that gave me the best impression is Qi Yuwu. He is a man of few words. However in private, he is a very caring and thoughful guy. He always seems to be deep in thoughts. Besides that, he is a very hardworking and talented actor.''

No specters and aliens here; Agent Mulder will be very disappointed.

Selling Point: This long cast list of hunks, babes and acclaimed actors; six mystifying and mind-blowing stories; plus when was the last time we had a drama that brings us back to the good ol? days of Mystery?

X-File Quotient: Some of the tales may seem a tad far-fetched for my idea of mundane Singapore, but I?m not going to miss a flesh-eating Geping, time-traveling Guo Liang, murderous Jacelyn and eye-candy like Roy, Yuwu, Stella and Rui En!

After ''The Champions'', MCS will be filming a new Ou Xiang Ju in april. Of course, everyone is curious about the cast.

Actually, Tony Sun from 5566 was being arranged to act as the main lead. However due to filming, he could not make it. Thus, MCS actor Qi Yuwu will take over the role instead. Ever since ''The Champion'', Yuwu's popularity is on the rise. Not only he filmed his first movie but also take on endorsements like Tian Po jewellery. now, he's selected to act in the new ''Ou Xiang Ju'', showing how hot he is.

As for foreign artistes, Qiu Ze, Chen Yi Rong etc are confirmed as part of the cast. Previously, they acted in ''Ping Pang''

For local artistes, it will be Qi Yuwu, Fiona Xie, Kym Ng and Gurmit Singh. Furthermore, Singapore idol runner-up Sylvester Sim will also be snagging a role too.

Newly-minted sex god? Yuwu (or 715, as he wants to be known) thinks otherwise. "I used to study physical education [in China] and there were easily lots of people at school with much better bodies than mine. Compared to them, my body is not a big deal."

Toned and tanned: The 28-year-old says he exercised more than usual for The Champion, "For example, I'd jog for 45 minutes instead of 30 minutes; or I'd exercise thrice instead of twice weekly." A man of few words, Qi Yuwu revealed that he was attracted to Fann Wong during the filming of 'Beautiful Illusions'.

In the drama, Ah Wu dated the 'evil' Fann Wong and they had some kissing scenes. He coyly admitted: "There were a few times that I was 'attracted' to her."

Fann Wong whom was seated beside Yuwu was surprised by he said and clarified immediately: "No! I am supposed to be flirty with him in the drama mainly for revenge but I did not flirt with him off-screen!"

However, the honest Ah Wu still insisted: "She knows how to 'attract' a person." He further disclosed that Fann actually helped him to get into his character.

He admitted that he had a lot of pressure as this is the first time he acted opposite Fann. However, it is not because his 'identity' is different but because he did not know how Fann would act out the role of the 'evil' Fann Wong.

"I didn't know how to respond and was quite worried but by the second day of filming, my worries were gone. She has done her homework and has her own interpretation. I respect her."

With regard to the kissing scenes, he smiled and said that it went very smoothly and the kissing scenes were not faked. He also feels that there's no need for faking the kissing scenes.

When asked if he prefers a wild or well-behaved girl, he said: "I like a girl with a mixture of both characters, but not a schizophrenic."

Do male artistes become 'brighter' after they turn 'black'? The entertainment industry is a vicious gossip circle; can one can become popular, what can make one popular, there are many different ways. Female artistes can rely on their looks to make a living, once in a while dressed sexily to 'brighten' their future.

What about male artistes? Unless they belong to the 'visual' category, otherwise there are not much changes. However, nowadays the entertainment industry seems to believe that one's skin tone can boost up your celebrity status and the most obvious example would be Louis Koo whose celebrity status seems to escalate after he became tanned.

Maybe it is because Louis Koo's tanned skin removed his previous weak, studious image. Although he was not very well-built, he looks more 'healthy' and became more appealing.

Because of this, the trend of male artistes tanning rises not because of the superstition of becoming famous. Some male artistes citing reasons of health, some due to the roles they took on and some just want to change their image. Guys do want to look good too!

MediaCorp stars Qi Yuwu and Li Lin star in their first movie Leap of Love!

MediaCorp’s Raintree Pictures had an opening ceremony for its latest project Leap of Love on Monday Jan 31. A romantic story spanning 20 years from 1984 to 2004, it stars popular local celebrities Li Lin, Allan Wu, Qi Yuwu, Vernetta Lopez and Nadya Hutagalung.

The movie tells the life of the female protagonist Li-ann (played by Li Lin) on 6 leap days (February 29) over 20 years.

Leap year baby Li-ann is a firm believer of Plato’s idea that there’s only one other half for every person. She falls for a stranger Jeremy, whom she believes is her destined partner, not knowing that he is already taken.

Li-ann approaches Jeremy, believing that a man cannot refuse a woman’s proposal on a leap day, and thus started an unusual but tumultuous love affair. The lovers meet only once every 4 years, on February 29.

Together with a colourful cast of gorgeous ladies and men, Leap of Love aims to capture the fascinating sensibilities and the essence of life in contemporary Singapore.

Leap of Love scored a cinematography coup with acclaimed cinematographer Kwan Pun Leung of Wong Kar Wai’s ‘2046’ coming on board. It is directed by French-Venezuelan director Fina Torres, director of Woman on Top and Celestial Clockwork.

Leap of Love is one of Raintree’s keystone projects and is slated for release in June 2005.

Fancy a date with a soft-spoken bloke like Qi Yuwu? GWYNETH TEO syggests breaking the ice by talking about his favourite food - snake soup.

With words like "Risotto" and "Carpaccio" tripping off his tongue, it is hard to believe that up to 5 years ago, actor Qi Yuwu had never touched Western food.

He didn't have to. The winner of the China round of Asian Star Search 1999 comes from Guangzhou, as famous for its cuisine as Suzhou is for its beauties. But 5 years of living in Singapore has obviously tickled his palate for food from other cultures - he suggested meeting for lunch at one of his favourite restaurants, Pontini, a classy Italian set-up.

Decked out in an Alfred Dunhill shirt and leather jacket, and sporting a chestnut-brown mane, Yuwu, 28, looks the cool date with a hearty appetite to boot. From the way he tucks into extra helpings of salad, it's evident he is also health-conscious. "Ah Wu would never allow himself to grow fat," his manager offers.

Says Yuwu in a mix of Cantonese and Mandarin: "I ddn't used to appreciate variety in food until I came to Singapore. My friends always complained that all I ever wanted was dim sum and fried noodles."

He recalls one memorable restaurant outing here when he ordered a steak beef. "When it arrived, I got a shock. It was almost as long as a bommerang. My friend and I joked that if I were to throw it in the air, it could actually kill someone." "Guess a person's taste can really change over time," he notes. When talk turns to the food in Guangzhou, however, his eyes brighten considerably. Nothing beats the familiar aroma wafting from his family kitchen back home, he says. He clearly misses the roast goose his mom prepares on his birthday, and dishes like fatt choy with pig's trotters and nian gao at Chinese New Year. "It's definitely my favourite season. For six whole days, I will visit my aunts and uncles to try their cooking!"

And don't even get him started on his penchant for snake soup. "It's sweet and fresh with a nice aroma. You have to drink it while it's very hot. I also like snake gall bladder mixed with wine. It helps to wam the body during winter."

It's unlikely that Yuwu will be tasting much of mom's cooking now that he has sealed his status as a leading man in Singapore - he was voted Top 10 Most Popular Artiste at last year's Star Awards. After languishing in semi-obscurity for 5 years playing mostly filial sons on TV, his career took off after a successrful turn in Room In My Heart and the ratings gem, The Champion. He is currently tackling his most challenging role yet; he plays a Casanova in a Channel 8 drama titled Jing Zhong Ren, slated for an April telecast. His character romances Fann Wong.

"It's very different from my personality, which is why I enjoy playing this character, who knows how to woo a girl and not feel embarrassed!" he says. The bravest thing he's done to impress a girl happened as a teen, when he had a crush on a classmate. He had climbed a tall tree to pluck flowers to make her a garland, which he hid in her desk to surprise her.

Should he find a special someone to share this Valentine's Day with, he wouldn't be any less inspired. "I would take her to a French restaurant, probably Les Amis," came the swift reply. "French food definitely makes for a more romantic experience."

Leap of faith required

For some members of the cast of Leap of Love, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures' latest movie, doing the romantic comedy required a leap of faith.

For China-born rising star, Qi Yuwu, the leap involved finding the confidence to tackle his first English-speaking role.

For his co-stars, celebrity couple Li Lin and Allan Wu, it had to do with accepting her kissing scenes with the as-yet-uncast male lead.

Leap of Love is a $2.5 million Raintree project that has been a long time in the making. At yesterday's prayer ceremony at Boat Quay, which marked the start of production, Raintree CEO Daniel Yun said he had first discussed the idea for the project - based on local writer Catherine Lim's novella of the same name - five years ago.

Production is now going ahead with talents such as Venezuelan director Fina Torres (who directed Woman on Top, with Penelope Cruz), director of photography Kwan Pun Leung, who worked on Wong Kar Wai's 2046, and a cast that includes Nadya Hutagalung, Vernetta Lopez and Sarah Jane Dias.

Filming is expected to finish by the end of March, said Yun, with the film slated to hit cinemas in "the second half of the year'.

In the film, Li Lin plays a firm believer in destiny and romance. She falls for someone whom she thinks is her destined partner and proposes to him on the leap year date of Feb 29 - also her birthday.

She does not know, however, that the man of her dreams is already taken, so an unusual love affair ensues, with meetings on Feb 29 every four years.

For Qi, a Star Search 1999 alumnus and Guangdong native, speaking English was the key challenge.

"I play someone whose mother tongue is not English, so I think it should be okay for me," he said. Qi took English lessons in China but only started practising the language when he arrived in Singapore.

The project won the Busan BFC Award at the Pusan Promotion Plan 2002.

SYNOPSIS

Chang Li-Ann, a delightful dreamer, is convinced she will one day meet the love of her life, her soulmate, her Mr Right.

In the year 1992, on that fateful day of February 29, she finds him in Jeremy Lee at the Blue Paradise Café and puts her faith in an obscure Irish leap year tradition that states a woman has the right to ask anything of a man on this day and he cannot refuse her. Li-Ann risks it and asks for a date. To her delight, he agrees and they embark on the most unforgettable night of their lives, running through the old Chinatown of Singapore. Their jaunt, however, ends in sadness when Jeremy reveals that he has to go back to Canada that night and that he is engaged to be married. Disappointed and hurt, Li-Ann tries to move on with her life. However, the bond and connection she had with Jeremy and the feeling of being totally alive for once are too overwhelming for her to leave that memory behind.

A commitment from Jeremy to see Li-Ann every four years on February 29 leads to an emotional trip where we witness her joy, pain, longing and hope. The story takes us from Singapore to Canada and into the new millennium.

Qi Yuwu: first time to go on the big screen

Besides Li Lin, it is also Qi Yuwu's first time to emerge on the big screen. He acts as LiLin's gd friend it it.

He said ''I'am very shocked they will find me for the english show, after that I discovered my role in it is a person who cannot speak very gd English. Therefore, I don't think there is any problem for me to carry out this role.

Yuwu studies English in China but had little opportunities in speaking it until he came to Singapore. He said that normal conversation in English was okay but for professional terms, it will be more difficult.

Yuwu finds that the role is similar to his character in real life, as he will express his love but yet not wait for her. He said that it is difficult to describe as there are many kind of ways to express your love. Waiting may be no point and you have to see whether it is worth it.

Leap of Love is estimated to be shown in June 2005.

At the interview, Yuwu said that his relationship with LiLin in the show is bordering on the thin line between love and friendship. Thus, there are not many intimate scenes with her. So, he did not need to feel awkward in front of LiLin's hubbie, Allan Wu.

Being his first English movie, Yuwu can handle it well. This is because he has studied it in China before and picked up the language better in Singapore. He is able to speak and listen to English with no problem at all.

Joanne: The working chemistry is definitely there with Yuwu after a couple of shows. And in fact, he was the one who taught me how to act. I had zero acting and stage experience when I first starred in Beautiful Connections, but since then, Yuwu really helped me understand what an actor has to do in a scene. The thinking process and the preparation stages were all unfamiliar to me until he shared his advice. So in a way, I feel fortunate having had the opportunity to learn from him.

On screen, Qi Yuwu and Jeanette Aw are definitely a match made in heaven. What about off screen? For this Valentine’s Day’s issue, Citta Bella deliberately arranged for them to be on the cover, besides the photo shoot, we also took the opportunity to do some snooping around whether any sparks flew between them off screen? Or is love beginning to surface? In the end, after separate interviews, personality test, we found out although they are similar in some ways, however when discussing the topic of love, instead…..

Qi Yuwu - A Devoted Man

Qi Yuwu gives out a cool demeanor when he’s quiet, especially if he’s at a corner by himself, staring up at the ceiling, deep in thoughts as if pondering on the never-ending philosophies of life. The interesting part is when I told him to take a personality test; he was so serious that it was as if he was entering into an exam hall. He would spend at least 5 minutes on every question, occasionally turning his head to ask either his artiste manager or me.

Upon seeing his serious attitude towards the personality test, I told him that it was just a test and he need not ponder over the answer, the answer was always what appears in his mind first. He stared at me for a moment and reverted his concentration back to his personality test. “Ah Wu is like this, sometimes he really think too much”, his artiste manager said.

After a while, Ah Wu finally finished the personality test and heaved a huge sign of relief. He also appeared to be more relaxed, no longer frowning his eyebrows and was less uptight.

“Are you always like this since young?”, I asked.

“It’s probably my character!”

Ah Wu said that he is very introverted and seldom makes the first move in approaching others and was always misunderstood to be aloof. In addition, he likes to have “crazy thoughts”, always thinking about ridiculous stuff. When asked what thoughts he had, he wasn’t able to give an example on the spot.

The Loss Of First Love

A man of few words like Qi Yuwu won’t have much experience in relationships. From schooling to stepping out into the society, Ah Wu’s past relationships can be counted easily and the most unforgettable was during his college days.

“She was from the class next door. As we would see each other and cycled to school everyday, it was inevitable that I soon developed an interest in her, so I would always leave the house at a specific timing, hoping to meet her.”

“My heartbeat quickened whenever I walked past her, but I do not know what to say to her”, Ah Wu smiled happily while reminiscing about this unforgettable college romance.

It was near graduation when Ah Wu could no longer hide his feelings and finally mustered his courage to make the first move, thus this is how their romance started.

“We were together for 2 years but slowly drifted apart because the feeling was gone.”

Ah Wu said, when in love, the most important is when both parties have that loving feeling, as when it is gone, it is meaningless to stay in the relationship.

When asked whether he made any sacrifices for love?

“I did not. At most if I missed her at night, I would go to her house and we would go for a walk in the park, walked a few more rounds”, he said.

Love Is Like French Cappucino

Qi Yuwu has a strange theory on love.

Love is like death, he said.

“Death is not dark to me; because of love you would want to be with each other till the end.”

His theory was not unreasonable, however I was still skeptical.

“We often said ‘to grow old together’, if we can’t be with each other till the end, how do you explain ‘to grow old together’?”, he explained.

What about those quotes “love is forever”, “it is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all”, Ah Wu also has his own theories.

“We should never challenge love. Everyone hope for everlasting love, however we would console ourselves that it is better to have loved and lost, when in fact we are contradicting ourselves. Actually, the most important thing when in love is that both parties should cherish, be truthful towards each other in order to face the future together.”

What Ah Wu said made me looked at him with a different perspective and when I was about to commend him, he came up with another amazing theory.

”Many people consider French style of love as the most romantic, what is the French style of love? It is like adding milk to cappucino. The bitter taste of coffee with the sweetness of milk, doesn’t that represent the bittersweet experience of love?”

A man of few words, he stunned me with his theories.

Didn’t know Ah Wu can be so humorous!!

Jeanette Aw In The Eyes of Qi Yuwu

I’m not a regular television viewer but I have watched 1 or 2 drama episodes starring Qi Yuwu and Jeanette Aw and always feel that both of them are quite compatible and this is why we have invited them to be on the cover of Citta Bella’s February issue.

Since they are the cover story and are compatible as a couple, I have observed and speculating whether the seeds of love have been planted. I asked Qi Yuwu about his impression of Jeanette Aw and I was surprised that he knows Jeanette Aw quite well.

“She is a ditzy girl whom appears to look tough but she actually needs others’ care and concern.”

He also said Jeanette’s kind-hearted and always flashes her sparkling smile.

As I listened to Qi Yuwu’s analysis of Jeanette’s character, I felt that they are not only just friends as he was so detailed.

Ideal Partner

I smiled and asked Qi Yuwu, since he understands Jeanette so well, is she his ideal mate?

Qi Yuwu pondered for a while, “To love and to be fond of a person are two separate issues, I can be fond of a person but that doesn’t mean I may fall in love with her.”

His ideal mate would have to be independent and unselfish.

Jeanette Aw seems to fit Qi Yuwu’s criteria, is it possible that someday they may develop feelings for each other and will Qi Yuwu make the first move?

“Yes! I will use my sincerity to pursue her.” Qi Yuwu replied without hesitation, however he explained further,”We are still colleagues at the moment and good working partners, as to being a couple; we do not have that feeling yet.”

Qi Yuwu In The Eyes of Jeanette Aw

To Jeanette Aw, Qi Yuwu is like a big kid whom can be wild at play and so chatty at times that it’s intolerable.

“When on location, he likes to sit quietly by himself in a corner, however he will be vivacious once he’s in front of the camera. He can be quite playful and wild once you get to know him.”

Jeanette Aw also added that Qi Yuwu is a very sensitive guy, “He knows how to take care of us female artistes and would always buy food for us. The deepest impression he left on me was when the producer wanted to shoot a scene of us jumping into the water, he was very concerned and kept asking about our well-being. We were very touched.”

Jeanette admitted that she feels very at ease with Qi Yuwu.

“He is a very nice guy! No bad habits, the Mr Nice Guy in our eyes.”

Ideal Partner

Is Jeanette carrying a torch for Qi Yuwu since she keeps heaping praises on him?

“No!” Jeanette blushed, “We are just good working partners, I do not have that kind of feeling for him.”

Jeanette added that her ideal partner would have to be extroverted as both of them are too introverted and would not be suitable for each other.

I teased her for being so judgmental as what if in the near future, they may develop feelings for each other and if Qi Yuwu make the first move, will she reject him?

“If that day really arrives, I may consider. However, I would prefer someone outside the entertainment industry as we wouldn’t be so tensed up. When I’m in a relationship, my only request is to have my own breathing space.”

What Jeanette just said actually dispel the possibility of them being together in the near future!

Personality Test

As both Qi Yuwu and Jeanette Aw dismissed the possibility of being attracted to each other now, what about in the near future? It is too early to say, so we specially chose a “Will you fall in love with your colleagues?” test and if it is possible that they may end up together or if they are just colleagues.

Conclusion of the test results:-

Qi Yuwu got 36 points and Jeanette Aw got 32 points. According to the results' analysis, both are the ‘waiting’ type, which means that they are hoping to start a romance with their colleagues. If there are interested parties, they would try to get close to you and may have dropped you a few hints! However, you will only be attracted to someone who looks elegant but a loner.

Although both Qi Yuwu and Jeanette Aw are hoping to start a romance with their colleagues, it won’t be to each other, looks like our hopes of them being a couple is dashed!

1. What are you like when you're in love?

Yuwu: I am quite introverted and reserved, but I'll do things that are really stupid when I'm in love. Like I might say or do something, then want to bang my head against the wall after because it made me look so stupid. An example? It's just things that sound so dumb, I feel like a moron. It feels like my IQ dipped to zero.

2. What was your first love like?

I was 18 and felt like an adult. I thought I was mature enough just because I was with someone.

3. What does love mean to you now?

I wanted to be like my parents when I was younger. You know, get to a certain age, get married, have kids, send them to school and spend the rest of my life like that. Not that that's bad, but I've realised I'm not like my parents. Times are different now. I do want the love they have because that's a sort of happiness in a way. But I don't think it'd happen to me.

4. Why not?

Because nothing really lasts these days. You might have a marriage in name, but the marriage can be in shreds.

5. What's marriage to you then?

Marriage is a lot of things. It's a beautiful thing, but not everyone can handle it. Someone who can fill the void in your life isn't necessarily the right one. What you'll eventually find might not be what you started out looking for. Maybe that's the beauty of falling in love and getting married. You don't really know what's going to happen. I'm not at a stage where I'd consider marriage. Maybe after I'm 30.

6. Do you believe in soulmates then?

That's just something that happens for a moment. Like a spark. Maybe it will last for a while, or maybe forever. But it doesn't happen to everyone.

7. So let's just enjoy it while it lasts?

Yes, as long as you both are happy now, that's good. I don't think it's being irresponsible. As long as you're sincere, this moment is what counts. You'll never know what's going to happen tomorrow. And there's really nothing you can promise someone.

8. Er... can you even begin to imagine what sort of wedding you'd like?

A quiet one. I don't really like big noisy affairs. Something sweet... maybe in a garden with lots of greenery and the bride comes out in a white gown. That would be quite a sight.

9. Are you a romantic?

I am. I live alone and people think that's lonely, but it's quite romantic. It can be as simple as listening to a CD and feeling romantic. Or course, it'd be better if it's with someone!

10. What's the most romantic thing you've done?

Telling that person I like her. I'm not a very expressive person, so I struggled within for a while before pouring out my feelings. That moment was the most romantic.

I feel great, of course. I don't quite know because the chemistry feel is always different. I feel good with most of the actresses I have worked before. Exercise and eat less junk food. Do work hard in a positive way in whatever things you do and enjoy the work.

Yuwu: I don't specially train for The Champions to get the toned body. Basically, I swim and jog very often and I don't go to the gym. So, you can try to jog and swim more often. I hope to have the chance to work with Julia Roberts one day. No comments about the dating issue.

Yuwu: After The Champions, I shot another drama starring opposite Fann called “Jing Zhong Ren”. There are no artistes I particularly like or dislike.The most difficult part to be an artiste is to maintain the passion as an actor. I would surely look forward to the opportunities working with overseas artistes.

Yuwu: I don't think I have the power to contribute. It's my job and I like it. I want to do my best in whatever I can. I hope to do comedy. Fann is a very easy person to work with, very professional and experienced. She is a very good actress. This drama is definitely one that worth looking forward to with its fresh combination of artistes.

Yuwu and I acted in Lu Xiaofeng before. It was his first drama and we even shared a room in China, so I know his kuan (what kind of person), hahah!”

Thomas continued, “We didn’t talk much that time for two reasons. Firstly, we all know Ah Wu seldom talk; secondly, he talks so softly! I couldn’t hear what he said, even though we shared a room, and our beds were only one feet apart. This hunk of a diving instructor in teen idol drama, The Champion, exudes suavity. Yet, his easy-going nature makes you think he's just that cute neighbour you peek at sometimes.

Tall, tanned and lean, Qi looks every inch a star, with a knack for accessorising to boot. (Not many men can pick out nice silver chains and carry off several of them at one go!) When asked whether he prefers playing serious roles to more passionate ones, Qi earnestly professes a liking for both.

''It's a big change, but I like it both ways as it allows the audience to see that I'm versatile, that I can play different roles,'' he says.

Qi also readily shares that filming The Champion was a hppy experience, as ''it is a TV series that shows the emotional lives of the younger generations, who are more active and full of passio abt the future''.

Showing passion isn't much a prob, esp if your future looks set to reach phenomenal heights like Qi's - what with screaming female fans, both teenages and adults alike, supporting him and nailing him a place in 2004 Star Awards' Top 10 Most Pop Male Artistes.

On diving
In real life, actors may not like the activity or sports their on-screen persona do. But that's not the case for Qi.

He recieved his sea-faring credentials ''in two weeks'' after the diving centre brought him to Pulau Aur, Malaysia.

''It feels very relexing to dive into the sea. I enjoy it very much. You get to see n touch a lot of things not usually found on land. I'ts very beautiful.''

Qi adds that pple use hand gestures to communicate underwater n this made it an interesting experience. Sadly, he did not get to dive after warpping up The Champion, as he had to start filming Jing zhong Ren (The Person in the Mirror), which stars Fann Wong.

''Just jogging n swimming. And Diving lessons. No dieting, bcoz I like to eat!'' came the swift, unhestitating reply.

''I used to exercise two to three times a week. But recently, I tore a ligament in my anke while jumping ard so I haven't been able to work out since.''

Back in China during uni, he would swim n play alot of ball.

Qi is obviously one who enjoys life bcoz when quizzed on his fav Sg dishes, the usual, signature dishes turned up - some of which the health conscious would frown on. There is laksa for one, otah and black pepper crab. All heaty dishes surprisingly, considering that this Guangzhou native confesses to a peference for cold weather over the tropical climate.

''Hot weather can make pple feel bothered, fustrated. I prefer autumn and winter''.

Even then, he really dones't mind breaking a sweat in sweltry Singapore.

'I enjoy exercising and I like the feeling of sweating it out. It is very important to eat healthy and live healthy.''

Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste win led to heart-throb Qi Yuwu's movie role in a Cannes Director's movie?!

With his rising popularity after being one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes, “Star Search” champion Qi Yuwu will make his first big screen debut after accepting a role in the English movie “Leap Of love” directed by Cannes famous director, Fina Torres!

Qi Yuwu confirmed the good news when he was interviewed at night on 14.12.2004. “Being in this line for 5 years, this is the first time I’m involved in a movie, it is like my dream come true…” he said with a tinge of happiness in his voice.

After his recent “Top 10” win and with his big screen debut, was lady luck brought by his “Top 10” win? Not many local actors made it to the big screen, excluding Jack Neo’s clan, only Li Nanxing, Christopher Lee, Xie Shaoguang, Thomas Ong, Adrian Pang… and Qi Yuwu with the least acting experience.

Looks like lady luck is indeed on his side, as in this year’s “Star Awards”, Ah Wu not only had his first “Top 10” nomination, he managed to be one of the “Top 10” and the youngest among them!

Ah Wu denied the speculation and revealed that he accepted the movie role a week ago, ie, before the “Star Awards”.

How pleasant? Is it a Mr Nice Guy role? Ah Wu admitted that a Mr Nice Guy role is more suitable for tv drama serials. His role in “Leap Of Love” is more realistic, an uprighteous young man.

Does Ah Wu face any difficulty with his first big screen debut, with English dialogues and working with an international acclaimed director?

“Still okay, my speeches are not very long and there are no difficult dialogues.”

This year, Ah Wu’s popularity is rising and this is largely due to his image overhaul in “The Champion”. Looking sportier after donning a tan, making his way to the “Top 10” list is not a surprise. What is his opinion on his co-star, Fiona Xie, being out of the "Top 10" list?

“It’s not the end of the world, try again next year lor.” Ah Wu added that although he is foresee as the next leading man of Caldecott Hill, he feels that work still have to be done well irregardless of becoming the next leading man of Caldecott Hill.

But you would not have known this bcoz the Guangzhou-born actor says he usually doesn't like to talk abt fashion.

His expensive shoes collection comprises about 80 pairs, mostly by Hermes and Gucci. Many wer ebought in Japan, HK and Australia.

He shuns Prada and Helmut Langs for brands like Bottega Veneta bcoz ''such brands have their heritae in shoe-making, not fashion, so the craftsmanship is there'', he says in Cantonese.
